Knowledge Based Systems, Inc. (KBSI) is a dynamic engineering and system analysis, consulting, and systems/software development company specializing in business process redesign, production optimization, corporate integration of software, and technical service support.  Located in College Station, TX, KBSI has more than two and a half decades of experience in systems analysis, design, and development and in developing cutting-edge technologies for business process analysis, discrete event simulation, process modeling and analysis, data mining, activity-based costing, workflow optimization, and system engineering methods in a host of government and commercial projects.

KBSI hires technical professionals in the areas of mechanical, industrial, electrical, and manufacturing engineering, as well as computer science, management science, systems analysis and artificial intelligence.  KBSI also has offices in Dayton, OH and Oklahoma City, OK.

STUDENT WORKER (ADMIN)

JOB SUMMARY

Student Workers are an integral part of the overall production at KBSI. Student Workers support administrative and project staff members at multiple levels by providing day-to-day office services and fulfilling logistical maintenance duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Accounting Support

  • Assist in maintaining corporate credit card spreadsheets
  • Enter and submit vendor invoices for approval; contact vendors to request documentation, as needed
  • File records, create A/P folders; scan receipts and other administrative documents, as needed
  • Occasionally make travel reservations or assist with other travel arrangements for employees
  • Review Calendar, credit card spreadsheets, and ensure all trips have an Expense Request
  • Special projects and other duties, as assigned

Human Resources Support

  • Assist in maintaining file retention policies and compliance postings throughout office
  • Assist with engaging employees on timely Job logs, Pre-Trip/Post-Trip Reports, Expense Reports, and assigned staff training deadlines
  • Special projects and other duties, as assigned

General Support

  • Receive and distribute incoming mail; process outgoing packages and letters (USPS, FedEx, etc.)
  • Receive visitors and provide general information and badging: visitors must be badged, logged and escorted. Notify the intended host/recipient, or see to it that the visitor arrives at the correct meeting location
  • Provide clerical services, as needed, which may include copying, shredding, filing, scanning, creating booklets, etc.
  • Assist with any meeting logistics including any special arrangements, food, supplies and monitor them throughout any special meetings, run errands including picking up special orders
  • Run errands, such as picking up special orders, as required
  • Cleaning and Food/Beverage Prep:
    1. Make coffee as needed, prepare lunch setup as needed (i.e. ordering/setting up for large client meetings)
    2. Ensure kitchen and meal areas (sink, microwave, fridge, etc.) are kept clean and neat, and dishes are clean and put away daily
    3. Maintain supplies such as coffee, tea, soda, sugar, creamer, plates, plastic ware, paper towels, etc. by ordering/purchasing when necessary and only after such purchases have been approved through the proper PO process, and ensure final Reports are made with receipts
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

Occasional Project Support

  • Data entry, technical writing, reviewing, illustration, and document markup; special projects and other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must be eligible for auto insurance coverage and able to operate company-owned vehicle(s)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and be able to sit, stand, walk, etc. for extended periods of time
  • Experience using handheld power tools is preferred

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel®
  • Basic data entry skills, attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with a multi-disciplinary team and be dependable
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Experience with filing and document retention is preferred

Frequently Available Positions

Experienced Software Developer

Our Experienced Software Developers accept assignments and operate independently, thus require the ability to learn quickly and a willingness to troubleshoot and problem solve self-sufficiently.

  • Knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3
  • Experience coding and debugging JavaScript
  • Experience working with jQuery, REST, JSON, AJAX, AngularJS.
  • Experience with designing & developing the UI for websites and web applications
  • Experience with one or more of the following: .Net, Java, MVC
  • Experience with SQL, Microsoft SQL Server and relational database development
  • Knowledge & understanding of mobile or responsive web design technologies
  • Desire and willingness to work as part of a distributed, collaborative & innovative team
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team

  • Operate independently on a customer site.
  • Interact with customers to identify detailed requirements of computer application systems.
  • Provide inputs to project management on level of effort estimates and design trade-off impacts.
  • Analyze and document requirements.
  • Evaluate the reuse of software modules across different projects.
  • Assist in technology transfer and adoption.
  • Perform analysis of relevant state of the art client server architectures and software platforms.
  • Investigate appropriate libraries, framework, and software modules for implementing business objects, charts, widgets, data analysis visualization.
  • Implement both structured and agile software development methods.
  • Extract information from unstructured text.

Technical Editor

Technical Editors are responsible for interfacing with technical staff to proof-read and edit reports, technical documents, proposals and manuals.  They compose and edit written materials to explain complex information in a clear and concise manner while collaborating with technical staff for accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Proof-read and edit content already developed by technical staff.
  • Edit project reports, marketing materials, web pages, proposals, technical documents and manuals.
  • Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style, content, font size, etc.
  • Develop clean, professional final documents for customer delivery.
  • Manage updates and revisions to technical literature.
  • Assist with web content management.
  • Some other minor office duties as assigned, if not actively editing documents.

Qualifications and skills

  • English, journalism and other writing degrees preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe products.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking.
  • Experience working in a technical editing position preferred. Engineering and computer sciences experience preferred.  R&D technical writing preferred.

Researcher

KBSI researchers have demonstrated capabilities to initiate and perform research in one or more of the following areas:  Artificial Intelligence, Expert Systems, Optimization, Supply Chain Modeling, Ontology Modeling and Analysis, Knowledge Representation, Automated Reasoning, Truth Maintenance Systems, Machine Learning Methods, Natural Language Processing, Computational Linguistics, Multi-Agent Systems, and Social Network Modeling and Analysis.

Ph.D. in at least one of the following areas (preferred but not required): Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, and Operations Research.
