Overview

The FPP provided the means to incorporate, into an integration environment, a model of the organizational process (the system development framework) that the environment is supporting. This platform harnessed the full power of the operating environment to effectively automate software development process management and to eliminate costly mistakes early in the development life cycle. This platform was developed under the Advanced Software Development Workstation (ASDW) project sponsored by the Software Technology Branch at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, a project designed to conduct research into the development of advanced technologies for Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE).

The FPP focused on management, control, and integration of the software system development process. Within the environment, experience-based "best practice" rules of the site-specific development process were captured in a framework to include unique characteristics of each project within the context of the development experience at a site. A framework (organization experience base and project specific characteristics) was installed within ASDW.
