Overview

KBSI's Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM) Simulation project conducted at Ogden Air Logistics Center (OO-ALC) focused on helping the Air Force's workload transition team assess the facility, manpower, and flow-time implications of expanding OO-ALC’s current PDM workload. The products of this project gave the Air Force the assessment capability needed to anticipate the effects of workload change and successfully bid for, acquire, and fulfill A-10 maintenance requirements without degrading F-16 and C-130 maintenance process performance.

The Simulation of the KC-135 PDM Simulation project extended and applied these results to the KC-135 aircraft line. KBSI developed a simulation tool that combines the ability to assess the impact of dock assignments and the impact of blocking constraints on throughput performance with the abilty to forecast personnel requirements given a feasible dock utilization plan, thereby providing a more accurate forecast of skill requirements than is possible with OC-ALC's legacy systems.

The result is an innovative simulation tool and architecture that, by bridging dock planning and personnel planning, is helping the Air Force to generate more realistic dock schedules that enforce user-defined priorities, scheduling policies, and resource availability.
