Overview

In response to CCAD's need for identifying direct and indirect costs associated with activities at the shop floor level, KBSI developed a simulation-based system for determining the costs associated with working job batches in the CCAD's blade and shot peening shops. In the first phase of this project, KBSI, using AIØ WIN® and SmartCost®, developed a series of models to analyze costs associated with working a daily batch of parts. The finished model set, including shop activity decompositions, cost models, cost rules, and analysis spread sheets, provided the flexibility to optimize the daily workload flow and realize the highest productivity and cost avoidance.

When the model set was complete, KBSI next developed a software interface front-end tool, SmartStat®, that allowed for a stochastic simulation of the cost model. In this tool, statistical distributions are associated with the appropriate cost driving attributes, a set of iterations is generated, and the cost frequencies and ranges are evaluated. This type of simulation study provides a means for performing sensitivity analysis on attributes within the cost model.
