Overview

The AIM XXI Program is a partnership program between Anniston Army Depot (ANAD) and General Dynamics Land systems for the rebuild of the M1A1 vehicles. ANAD is responsible for disassembly of the vehicle and repair of the hull, turret structures, and selected components. This work is completed in different cost centers within ANAD. ANAD requires a comprehensive shop process analysis to determine the actual total time required by each cost center to overhaul the assigned work units. ANAD also requires a methods & process streamlining assessment to ascertain opportunities for throughput and efficiency improvement in conjunction with determining the AS-IS baseline model.

KBSI has completed over 400 work unit Time studies required to quantify & baseline ANAD’s performance within the partnership. Method and Process improvement opportunities are being identified and documented. Implementation of improvements will be developed.

This activity will be accomplished by applying generally accepted industrial and
managerial analysis techniques, practices, and procedures. KBSI is performing process flow ‘stopwatch’ time studies to determine the process time currently required to overhaul components and assemblies. Over 100 lean manufacturing opportunities and process/method improvement recommendations have been documented. KBSI is also identifying the impact of the aging weapon system on the overhaul process.
