Innovative Energy Management Technologies
Faced with increased usage demands and calls for stable pricing, the oil and gas industry is looking at new and innovative ways to increase production levels while controlling production and distribution costs. KBSI has developed a number of solutions for the oil and gas industry that have helped to improve field data collection and analysis techniques and operational efficiency as well as to increase worker safety, both in the field and off-shore.
Recent KBSI research initiatives focused on energy sources have researched methods for harnessing energy from ocean wave action. In the Parasitic Power Pack (P3) effort, KBSI is developing an innovative power pack for remotely deployed buoys. The buoys enable communication, via a distributed sensor network, among the Navy's assets both under and above water. The P3 technology uses wave power rather than batteries to power the buoy sensors. In addition, KBSI’s Wave Carpet initiative is a novel, deep water wave power generation platform that is easily and rapidly redeployable. The Wave Carpet technology's innovative design includes large, flexible, floating body hydrodynamics, distributed controls, and an embedded, fault redundant electric power grid that supports energy storage and is augmented by fluid power storage. The system is dynamically positioned using its own power.
